A Crystal Delivered to the Mages Guild

I have noticed a few items arrive at the Mages guild during my hours of guild service there. This time a small wooden chest was delivered contains a crystal within a jar. While things were quieter at the guild desk I took the opportunity to sketch it into my book.

A Game of Elements.

Leaving the ritual circle I wandered over to the Mages Guild. At such an early hour all is quiet, I tidied up a little and seated myself down by a game  on a side desk. I had the feeling it would come into play later in the day once the high magic trials got underway.

The Arrival of Master Ixxil

During a meeting of the Mages Guild I had my attention brought from my note book back into the realms around me by the arrival of Master Ixxil. His distinctive appearance is overshadowed by his knowledge of all matters magical and he had tasks and matters to discuss and assign to the mages senior to me. I decided it was best not to get in the way but I could not resist drawing the scene later when I was sitting selling my postcards later.

Conversations About The Arcane

Once I had finished my sketch at my first location I moved to sit by the Mages guild. Master Tirwen was busy as always behind the desk and Master Implar was coming and going dealing with the issues of his day. Seated infront of the desk two mages chatted and compared notes, engrossed in their conversation they didn’t seem to notice me sketching them into the scene. I finished my sketch, chatted with those who called by and sold a card to a gentleman of good taste from the Wardens (thank you sir!), still the two mages talked.

The Rite Circle.

Several times over the weekend I took the opportunity to catch up with my fellow guild members and masters in the Mages Guild. Behind the main area of the guild was a small area for rites and ceremony. Carefully laid out candles and an orb sat on top of dressed table overlooking the rite circle. I promised myself a while to sketch it at the beginning of the second full day of the fayre before the area became busy with the writing of scrolls, the empowerment of items and the casting of spells.

Gateway to the Arcane.

A silver and black drape hangs by the entrance to the mages guild, I decided to capture its image in ink while the guild was quiet. I have seen the mages guild masters working and teaching many times and felt it was prudent to pick a sketching time when I wouldn't be in the way. An important lesson, try not to annoy a high mage, but do watch and learn. It is surprising what can be learned.

The Library Alcove.

The presence of the power guilds was evident around the tesseract, I took time to read the tributes left to the fallen healers before walking into the library alcove of the mages. The early hour gave me time to sit and sketch in solitude before the crowds gathered for the days entertainment.

A Meeting With Malthus Calgar & the NDM

Like many, I look for ways to better myself. It was such a way which took me to the Mages Guild to seek guidance, council and membership. I was informed I would be considered but would need to speak with my faction High Mage to gain reference before I could be interviewed. I have never had the pleasure of meeting with Malthus before and was a little nervous of approaching unannounced to ask such a favour. But needs must, and I took the wander from the desk at the Mages Guild up to the Wold Camp and the tent of the NDM.

It was a relief to see the High Mage relaxing with the rest of the Militia in the early evening sun and it put my mind at ease knowing I would not be disturbing duties. The NDM spoke of the importance of enjoying a good evening bask and Malthus proved to be approachable, friendly and was kind enough to write my reference in my sketchbook.

Sadly our conversation was cut a little short when we were concerned our camp was about to come under attack. Once the threat had passed I sat myself down close to the unlit fire pit and sketched the NDM tent onto the back of the reference Malthus had written for me. On showing the reference to Francis Littlefoot of the Mages Guild he seemed well pleased.

My thanks to Malthus and the NDM for making me welcome and helping me with my learning.
